Family Camp

Overview:

Family Vacation Camp at Wente Scout Reservation offers numerous fun and exciting activities for people of all ages.  Archery and BB gun are great for everybody and the rifle and shotgun ranges offer a rousing challenge for older campers.

Bring your fishing gear!  Catch a mess of bluegill or large-mouth bass. Wente’s lake provides excellent fishing even for the smaller children. An 80-acre private lake provides a great place to lay in the sun or swim on a warm afternoon. There are plenty of shallow areas for the little ones and areas for the experienced swimmer too.

The lake also offers the opportunity to row a boat, paddle a canoe or kayak, or just lean back and enjoy the sun as a stiff breeze pushes you along in a sailboat. You can enjoy the miles and miles of hiking trails and don’t forget to stop by the craft area where you can make something that will always remind you of the good times you had at Family Vacation Camp.

The camp trading post offers a wide variety of ice cream, candy and other snack items as well as Wente Scout Reservation merchandise.

Like most national, state, or private campgrounds, you will be sleeping in tents. You have the option to use camp tents or you can bring your own.  ALL sites are first come-first serve when you arrive at camp.  Large groups of 50 or more wishing to camp together can be assigned a site in advance Hot showers and restrooms or pit-toilets are nearby each of the campsites.

A great choice of two food plans is available. The first is bringing your own food to camp. Perishables may be stored in the camp refrigerators.

The second choice is prepared meals in the camp dining hall. Eat like the Scouts do during summer camp. Varied and nutritious meals are available for a very reasonable fee. Meals begin with Saturday breakfast and end with Sunday dinner. Breakfast Monday is available for an additional fee for those on the meal plan and for those who are cooking their own food.

Sunday evening there is an ice cream social – a tradition of many years at Family Camp – which is included in your fee for either food plan.

Who Can Attend:

The families of anyone registered in the Boy Scouts of America (Cub Scouts, Scouts BSA, Venture Scouts, Sea Scouts, Explorer Scouts, and Adult Leaders) may participate.

You can bring along friends and relatives to camp with you as well. Family Vacation Camp is intended to provide a quality family atmosphere!

Activities:

There are many activities to do at camp.  Hiking, swimming, crafts, archery, BB guns, rifle, shotgun, tomahawk-throwing, and horseback riding, evening ice cream socials, campfires and more!  Wente Scout Reservation also offers fishing and boating.
